![]() It's here, where the Black River and the Dragon's Tongue diverge that you'll find the city of Corvis.Īh, Corvis. The moors of Greater Cygnar, to the north are dotted with swamps and marshes. Lesser Cygnar, as the south is called are home to rocky hills and lush forests. Taxmen are almost as commonly seen as guard patrols, but at least they finance the mighty steamjacks that are carving roads out of the livnig rock. The King has also started building roads to support more trade, though there are years of work still to be done - and plenty of taxes to be collected, I'll wager. Don't cross them, my friend, or there'll be a warrant out on ye before ye know it. The King's patrols are a common site, and they do a fine job at keeping the peace, though they are often heavy handed. So long as ye stay within the cities or on the major trade routed, nary a soul will bother ye. Under his rule the Kingdom has become a much safer place. His brother Leto is a fine king and an honorable man. I wouldn't worry about Raelthorne the Elder, though - he hasn't a chance of regaining the throne. He is rumored to be plotting his revenge to this day, but no one has seen hide nor hair of him or his black-hearted lieutenants. Unfortunately, with the help of those still loyal to him, Raelthorne the Elder managed to escape the palace before his execution. After almost two decades of his rule, his younger brother Leto led the coup that removed him from power. Born in this conflict was what we today call the Iron Kingdoms - of which Cygnar is the shining star.Ĭygnar's last ruler was King Vinter Raelthorne IV - a cruel, evil man. It was only after hundreds of years of brutal rebellion that the inhabitants of this continent defeated the invaders. As ye know, the Orgoth raiders conquered this land a thousand years ago, and ruled it with an iron fist. The Kingdom was founded about 400 years ago, at the end of the Orgoth Empire. The capital is Caspia, far to the south, where the Black River empties into the Gulf of Cygnar. We've three major rivers, one inland sea and scores of lakes. The Kingdom is about two hundred leagues from north to south. So, new to the Cygnar, are ye? I'll give ye the five-copper tour.

I think the role should go to a relative unknown – especially for US audiences.Ĭharacter Description: Duke Leto is Paul, the protagonist’s, father. I’m not sure if he could manage the depths that Whishaw can, but he did show some range as the spoiled and vain titular character in The Portrait of Dorian Gray, and was a handsome action hero in Prince Caspian. could work to the film’s advantage.Īlternate: Ben Barnes. Most of my choices are relatively unknown in the US, but I think that would be a wise route for Morel to take. I’ve listed a first and second choice for the main cast. Here I give my own(exalted) opinion of who would be a great fit for the major roles. Still, I think this original post is still a fun way to dream about the ideal cast, IF another version ever gets made at this point. If we don't take into account defects of any kind, it is clear that the material will fail under a bending force which is smaller than the corresponding tensile force. Conversely, a homogeneous material with defects only on its surfaces (e.g., due to scratches) might have a higher tensile strength than flexural strength. Therefore, it is common for flexural strengths to be higher than tensile strengths for the same material. However, if the same material was subjected to only tensile forces then all the fibers in the material are at the same stress and failure will initiate when the weakest fiber reaches its limiting tensile stress. ![]() When a material is bent only the extreme fibers are at the largest stress so, if those fibers are free from defects, the flexural strength will be controlled by the strength of those intact 'fibers'. In fact, most materials have small or large defects in them which act to concentrate the stresses locally, effectively causing a localized weakness. The flexural strength would be the same as the tensile strength if the material were homogeneous. Most materials generally fail under tensile stress before they fail under compressive stress Flexural versus tensile strength These inner and outer edges of the beam or rod are known as the 'extreme fibers'. At the outside of the bend (convex face) the stress will be at its maximum tensile value. At the edge of the object on the inside of the bend (concave face) the stress will be at its maximum compressive stress value. ![]() 1), it experiences a range of stresses across its depth (Fig. When an object is formed of a single material, like a wooden beam or a steel rod, is bent (Fig. 2 - Stress distribution through beam thickness University of Arizona Opto-Mechanical Papers Reference. "Three-degree-of-freedom flexure-based manipulator for high-resolution spatial micromanipulation". "Eliminating Underconstraint in Double Parallelogram Flexure Mechanisms". Additionally, special care must be taken to design the flexure to avoid material yielding or fatigue, both of which are potential failure modes in a flexure design. This makes flexures a critical design feature used in optical instrumentation such as interferometers.ĭue to their mode of action, flexures are used for limited range motions and cannot replace long-travel or continuous-rotation adjustments. Flexures are able to achieve much lower resolution limits (in some cases measured in the nanometer scale), because they depend on bending and/or torsion of flexible elements, rather than surface interaction of many parts (as with a ball bearing). It’s no secret that we think flexures are pretty cool, and we’ve featured a number of projects that leverage these compliant mechanisms to great effect. Additionally, conventional bearings or linear slides often exhibit positioning hysteresis due to backlash and friction. High precision alignment tasks might not be possible when friction or stiction are present. In the field of precision engineering (especially high-precision motion control), flexures have several key advantages. Using compound flexures, complex motion profiles with specific degrees of freedom and relatively long travel distances are possible. Since single flexure features are limited both in travel capability and degrees of freedom available, compound flexure systems are designed using combinations of these component features. Is there a certain song you're excited, or even maybe a little scared, for people to hear for the ï¬rst time? Every song is its own story, but I wanted to call the EP Struck by Lightning because that song talks about being there for someone no matter what, and I hope some of these songs can make people feel like someone is there for them in the same way. I hope people can take away comfort from at least one song. What do you hope people take away from Struck By Lightning? Spending time with family/friends also helps, but otherwise I've learned it just takes time. I guess the thing that helped me most with getting over the breakup was avoiding contact with that person. It's always nice to know other people are feeling what I'm feeling.Īt its core, "Remember That Night?" is a breakup anthem. I posted a clip of the song the same night I started writing it and the immediate reaction surprised me. It has been so cool and honestly validating since I've mostly avoided writing about my relationship/ breakup, because I wasn't sure how to put the way I felt into words. What was it like watching people connect with "Remember That Night?" A lot of what I write about is pretty personal, and I try not to have too much of a ï¬lter on while writing, so that might be why it can feel like reading a diary :-) I normally like to establish a concept or storyline before I go into writing a song, so a lot of times I'll write a few lyrics ï¬rst before going into the melody. It's intimate, vulnerable, and cathartic all in one fell swoop. Your music often feels like reading from the torn pages of a diary. After a few years of that, I became more interested in writing songs and realized how much I loved doing that, which is when I knew I wanted to make music forever ! I learned to sing and play a lot of my favorite songs and started busking/playing bar gigs. I loved to sing as a kid and started to get more seriously interested in music when I was around 12 and got my ï¬rst guitar. When did you ï¬rst know you wanted to make music? We had the chance to talk with Sara via e-mail about her new EP, how she write such emotive songs, and collaborating with Cavetown (who she'll be going on tour with later this year).įor those who don't know, who is Sara Kays? In many ways, it feels like the next step forward for an artist destined to become a household name or a tender reflection whose straightforward emotional sincerity is unmatched, but more than anything, Struck By Lightning, feels like the embrace of a close friend - comforting, familiar, and warm. ![]() ![]() In the span of its seven-track run, a lot can be said about the impression Sara Kays leaves. So, the idea is, 'I'll sit out there with you in silence.' ![]() "It can be frustrating when you know someone's going through something, but they won't say anything. "A friend of mine struggled a lot with depression and didn't necessarily always talk to me about it," shares Sara. ![]() Trademark Sara and Cavetown, the joint single sees the newfound duo creating a veritable earworm out of profoundly sincere sentiment. The EP also includes previously unheard songs, including the Cavetown-assisted titular opening track. Struck By Lightning includes the familiar breakout hit, "Remember That Night?," a breakup anthem whose delicate yet haunting soundscape caused it to quickly go viral. All of this culminates in her latest EP, Struck By Lightning, a heart-rending collection of songs that feel like sneaking a peek into someone's diary. The rapidly rising artist's growing fanbase is a testament to her understated gift for empathetic songwriting, which sees her transforming her innermost thoughts into universal, bittersweet anthems that carry all the emotional weight and intimacy of a close friend confiding in you. Indiana-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Sara Kays has cultivated a devoted following by wearing her heart on her sleeve. ![]() ![]() Sometime later, Psi Corps received word of a covert operation smuggling telepaths into Earth's outer colonies, where it would be harder for MetaPol to find them. Unknown to anyone besides Bester's inner circle, it was actually Bester who staged the assassination, spending years planting telepathic triggers in Johnston's aides. Officially the bombing was blamed on the Telepath Resistance, playing out exactly as he claimed. The damaged modular section quickly flooded and Bester had only just been able to escape before it auto-detached to save the rest of the complex, though the Director was not as lucky. Claiming that one of Johnston's guards turned on the Director during a late night meeting with the Psi Cop, Bester shot the guard in the leg before he set off a bomb. Awoken by an explosion that rocked the facility, Byron found a wounded Bester near a flooded section of the base where the Director had been staying. Morden from Earthforce New Technologies Division, the members of Black Omega bunked down for the night. Escorting Bester back to the Black Omega transport, Byron and Ysidra then headed to Ganymede, docking at the secret Icehouse facility much to the surprise of base staff. The ship exploded, damaging Bester's Starfury. After a sensor scan showed that the ship was empty, Bester realized it was a trap set by Director Johnston and his cronies. On November 18, Byron accompanied Bester and Tapia in pursuit of a transport supposedly carrying rogue telepaths which they tracked and captured near Jupiter. Though Bester considered him somewhat young and naive, he still intended Byron to become one of his inner circle like Donne and Ysidra Tapia. ![]() ![]() In 2256, Byron was assigned to Black Omega Squadron under the command of Alfred Bester. This is not a weekend build or print, it is a seriously big model kit, and intended for those who really enjoy building big ass model space ships, and are prepared to put in the time and effort on it. Please read the linked Readme document below, as it details various assembly notes and errata, provides a full list of extras required to build it (such as screws, styrene/brass rod, etc), and gives a full list of parts, their quantities required, weights, and print times. There is also plenty of space to fit a motor/servo/stepper to make the rotating section spin. The ship has LOADS of space inside for wiring for LEDs, though its not a very brightly lit ship, what lights it does have can be easily installed. No part exceeds 200mm on the print bed, so that is the largest size print bed required. The ship was designed to be printed completely on an FDM printer, but there are a few parts such as the guns, and some detail panels that would benefit from being printed on a DLP resin printer. I broke the ship down into parts to get the best results from 3d printing for each part, and there are almost no supports needed. It mostly screws together for ease of assembly, with smaller detail parts glued on. The ship weighs about 3.4kg, and is made up of 356 parts, and on my Printers, took a total of 280 hours of printing. (thats about 40" for the metrically challenged). Here it is, my biggest model, the gigantic, kick-ass, 1 meter long Omega Class Destroyer from Babylon 5. |
